Brainy Badger is built so kids can practice math without handing over personal information. Here is what we collect and why. Last updated November 1, 2026.
The short version
- Students never need an email address. They sign in with a made-up nickname, a PIN and a first name.
- There are no ads, and we don’t sell or rent anyone’s information.
- Teachers sign in with an email address and a password.
What we collect
Teachers
Your email address and a password. Your password is never stored as you typed it: we keep only a salted, scrambled (hashed) version. We also store the rooms you create and the math settings you choose.
Students
A made-up nickname, a PIN, and a first name so a teacher can tell who is who. We also keep their progress: games played, equations answered, time spent and scores. Leaderboards show nicknames, not first names.
A student’s first name, nickname and progress can be seen by the teacher who owns their room and by the Brainy Badger team.
Messages
If you send a note or a game idea (for example from Brainy’s Corner) or use the live chat, we receive the message and anything you choose to put in it, such as an email address. When a signed-in student sends a note, their first name goes with it.
Technical information
Like every website, our host sees your IP address when you load a page. We use it to deliver the site and to slow down repeated sign-in attempts, and for that we keep only a scrambled (hashed) version, not the address itself.
When someone starts a game, we also get a notification with the game, its settings, and the approximate location, device type (phone or computer), internet provider and time zone of the visit. It does not include names, nicknames or email addresses.
In your browser
To keep you signed in and remember your settings, Brainy Badger stores a small amount of information in your browser (local storage). We don’t use advertising cookies.
How we use it
To run the games and classrooms, show scores and progress to teachers, keep the site secure and fair, answer your messages and improve the games. We don’t use it for advertising.
Who helps us run Brainy Badger
We rely on trusted service providers to host the site, store accounts and progress, and deliver notifications and messages to the Brainy Badger team. They handle information only to provide those services to us, and we don’t sell it.
A live chat is available on the home page, the Contact page and our pages about math practice. It is not on the game pages kids play or the Teacher Portal. Anything you type into the chat, and the visitor details the chat tool collects, are handled under that tool’s own privacy terms.
Children
Brainy Badger is made for classrooms. We don’t ask students for an email address, and the only personal detail we ask a student for is a first name. A teacher creates the room and chooses its settings. Teachers: please add only students you are responsible for, and follow your school’s rules for online tools.
If you are a parent or teacher with a question about a child’s information, contact us and we’ll help.
Your choices
Teachers can remove a room or clear its scores from Manage Room in the Teacher Portal. To have an account, a student or other information deleted, contact us and we’ll take care of it. You can clear what Brainy Badger stores in your browser at any time from your browser’s settings.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we’ll update the date at the top of this page. Our Terms of Use explain the rules for using the site.
